Local Libertarian: Child Porn Should Be Legal Because Criminals Don’t Follow Laws

GLADSTONE, CONNECTICUT — 43 year old self-described “free market libertarian” Ryan Kevin recently made headlines in his small Connecticut town when he gave an impassioned speech to his local city council that they “take bold, decisive steps to end government tyranny” by making child pornography legal within the city limits.

“Criminals don’t follow laws anyway,” Kevin told the Gladstone, Connecticut City Council at a meeting in November, “so all you’re doing is putting undue governmental pressure on children who might otherwise willing enter into a private contract with a pornography producer.” Kevin asked in a heated exchange with the council members if any of them “even understood what Freedom of Association means” and told them they were “acting like jackbooted thugs, telling two private citizens — one of who is a minor — that they can’t do business in any way they mutually agree to.”

Mr. Kevin told our reporter that when one council member asked him about children who are exploited against their will, he shot back, “Well that’s just a totally different scenario because in one case a minor is being taken advantage of in ways they cannot really comprehend at their young age, and one is being taken advantage of in ways they cannot really comprehend at their young age for money.” Kevin said he was “dismayed” by how much he had to keep repeating that “money is more important than anything in a free market, capitalist society.”

“All you are doing by writing laws against child pornography,” Kevin said, “is keeping good, clean, law-abiding, American patriot children from supporting themselves in a way they choose to, no matter how young and incapable of making the moral decisions you face when deciding to sell your sexuality on the open market.” He told our interviewer “that is just nothing but pure, unadulterated tyranny.”

Though he said he knows it’s a “long shot” that he’ll be able to convince his local city council to pass laws allowing for child porn to be produced in the town “provided it’s all totally consensual or at least it involves money changing hands” that he’s still prepared to take his fight to the Supreme Court. “Our economy depends on the government knowing its boundaries,” he said, “and nothing says overstepping boundaries quite like telling someone they can’t make a living in any way they see fit, no matter how young, vulnerable, and developmentally incapable they to understand all the ramifications, risks and problems associated with their decisions, and no matter how gross it might seem to anyone with even a handful of neurons left to rub together.”
